I found a bunch of interactive sites that talk about Earth Day and ways to protect the environment, but my bookmarks were erased. We’ll be using these to brainstorm ideas about projects we could do either at home or at school. Can you find these sites and “play” with them?

1) Find a training camp site for energy busters that is specifically for kids. You can play games that talk about saving energy on this site. There is a specific animal that’s featured on this site, what is it?

2) Find a site that tells what happens to garbage after you throw it away. This site also tells why recycling is important. This site is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and you can play the Dumptown Game that teaches about recycling.

What is the title of this site?

3) Find a site that explains that there is still time to save endangered animals. This site demonstrates how loss of habitat and ecosystems can lead to a decline in biodiversity. This site has real pictures of six plant and animal species. It has a special Kid’s Corner that has a sections for species in the spotlight.

Which species are in the spotlight?

4) Find a site that has an interactive water cycle. What does RWVC stand for and why are each of these things important in keeping water “recycling” itself.

What IS Thirstin and what is he/she wearing? Why did the EPA choose Thirstin as the main character in this activity?

5) Find the Time for Kids site. Is there a special Earth Day page that tells how kids can help save the planet? What are the five ways kids can help?

What other Earth Day interactives, games or activities are linked to the Time for Kids site?

You have several things to do today.

First, you need to open the biography_questions.doc so you can type in notes as you learn about your person.

Second, you need to open the Searching Directions, so you can get the search directrions and record your search process.

Third, follow the directions on the Seaching Directions to find several sites about your biography person, and post those sites on your blog.

If you need an example of what it should look like, check out my blog.

We want you to use what you’ve learned about searching and using a blog so far to try to figure out how to do these tasks. We know it’s not easy, but you can work with your partner and look to other classmates to help. All of the directions are here and in the Searching Directions document. You just need to figure out how to do these things. So warm up your brain and get going! You can do it! And no whining at the teachers!
